Pahoia Hall and Apata Room History

The original Apata Hall was built with volunteer labour from local farmers in 1951 and opened on 7 June 1952.

In 1993 , as per local bylaws, WBOPDC became involved with the hall management and the Apata Hall Incorporated Society was formed.

In 2004, a 21st birthday party at the hall was shut down by police and later that night the hall was burnt down.  An 18 year old tourist, not associated with the party, was later convicted of the arson. He pushed a car onto the steps of the hall and set fire to it.

Insurance money was paid out to the Hall Committee on condition that a new hall will be built.

Due to low utilisation and problems with vandalism prior to the arson, the Committee was asked to investigate alternative locations for the hall.  Results of a 2007 survey indicated that Pahoia School was the community's preferred site.  The school site would ensure that the hall was always used and would be well maintained.

In 2011 construction of the new hall commenced and  the hall was officially opened in October 2011.
